Four Years In – And Still Learning Every Day
When I turned 40, I had it all mapped out. I had a loving husband, Dave, and two beautiful children. I was finally on my way to achieving a fulfilling career and financial milestones. A comfortable retirement at 55 seemed totally within my reach.
Life, as it turns out, had very different plans for me.
Four years ago, when I reached State Pension age, my reality looked nothing like those carefully crafted visions from my younger years. Despite decades of building knowledge, skills, and qualifications – a BSc Honours in Applied Psychology, an MSc in Information Management, certifications as a hypnopsychotherapist, life coach, and now retirement and business startup coach – the financial security I'd worked toward for so long had always proved to be elusive.
But here's what I've learned: sometimes the most unexpected paths lead to the most meaningful destinations.
My Journey So Far
Sudden widowhood at 42 – Rebuilding life as a single mother
Multiple car accidents – Learning to heal, physically and emotionally
Bereavements and traumas – Finding strength I didn't know I had
Financial setbacks – Discovering that security isn't just about money
AND MOST RECENTLY.....
Stage 3 ovarian cancer diagnosis - Regaining my health
Why Your Story Matters Too
If your retirement isn't panning out how you imagined, you're in good company.
If you're dealing with:
Financial pressures that weren't part of the original plan
Health challenges that change everything
Loss and grief that reshape your priorities
The need to reinvent yourself at a stage when you thought you'd be settled
Caring responsibilities for family while caring for yourself
Then this podcast is for you. Because real retirement isn't about cruises and putting your feet up watching the world go by – it's about navigating whatever life throws at you with grace, wisdom, and determination.
## What Makes This Different
**Lived Experience**: I'm not theorizing about resilience – I'm living it, daily.
**Professional Insight**: My background in psychology, coaching, and mentoring brings depth to every reflection.
**Unvarnished Truth**: You'll hear about the dark days alongside the breakthroughs.
**Practical Application**: Every episode offers concrete strategies you can use, whether you're facing similar challenges or entirely different ones.
**Hope in Action**: This isn't toxic positivity – it's realistic optimism backed by real results.
## From Survival to Service
Four years into this unexpected retirement, I've discovered something remarkable: all those challenges, all that accumulated knowledge, all those hard-won skills – they weren't preparing me for the retirement I planned. They were preparing me for the retirement I needed to live.
Now, as a retirement and business startup coach, I help others navigate their own unexpected paths. As someone facing cancer, I'm learning new lessons about priorities, presence, and possibility.
## Your Weekly Reality Check
**New episodes every [day]** – because life doesn't pause for perfect timing.
Each 25-35 minute episode is like having coffee with someone who's been through the fire and emerged not unscathed, but undefeated. Someone who understands that retirement isn't about having arrived – it's about continuing to grow, contribute, and create meaning, whatever your circumstances.
## Join the Journey
Whether you're facing your own unexpected retirement reality, supporting someone who is, or simply want to hear what real resilience sounds like, there's a place for you here.
**This isn't about inspiration porn or miracle cures.** This is about the daily choice to keep moving forward, keep learning, keep serving – even when (especially when) life doesn't go according to plan.
*Subscribe now and join me for honest conversations about the retirement nobody talks about – the one that's messier, more challenging, and ultimately more meaningful than anything I could have planned.*
**Because sometimes the life you didn't choose becomes the life you were meant to live.**

Welcome to the
adaptive retirement show
I'm so pleased you've found me as I prepare to launch what I believe will become an essential resource for retirees.
As I prepare for my official debut on 7th September 2025, I'm incredibly excited to bring you a fresh perspective in the retirement podcast arena.
Yes, there are certainly other programmes discussing retirement topics already out there but no one has lived my life, experienced what I have, taken what I've learnt and formed my individual perspectives. That's what you'll be getting.
I'm entering this arena with a specific mission: to disclose the real, evolving challenges that I, and many of you as someone already retired, are facing right now in 2025 and beyond.
Launching
7 September 2025
What makes my newcomer status particularly valuable is that I'm building this show from the ground up with today's retirement realities in mind – not yesterday's assumptions. From my very first episode, I'll be tackling the current landscape of retirement, including the latest changes to state pensions, modern healthcare navigation, contemporary investment strategies for retirees, and the unique opportunities available to today's over-65s.
Be among the first to join me.
